My friend lost her son during a military training accident in 2022. A couple months into her grief journey, she expressed frustration trying to find "tools" to help her process. I knew nothing about this level of loss or grief, so I went on a mission to help her find resources. My research uncovered a grief coaching certification program, and I enrolled. When my friend told me that going back to work would be too difficult, I was compelled to learn the "why" behind grief in the workplace. I've since ventured down an unexpected yet rewarding path. I truly wish the circumstances that propelled me into this line of work never happened. But here I am - on a mission to exchange judgement with empathy by educating individuals and organizations on the importance of grief and mental health awareness, suicide prevention, advocating for recovery friendly workplaces, and creating workplace cultures that value psychological safety.
I do this in honor of Capt. Nicholas P. "Sloppy" Losapio USMC and the crew of Swift 11, and all who choose careers to keep our country and communities safe.
Nick's mom granted permission to share her story.

On Mother's Day 1991, their house caught fire. It was the call of the peacock that woke my mother late at night, saving the lives of my parents

The peacock symbol has remained important throughout my life.
The Your Grief Matters logo, although simple, is filled with personal symbolism in each shape and color.
